Dear parents, a warm welcome to all of you. Our concern and your concern is that when your son leaves this college, he becomes intellectually sharp, spiritually vibrant and a socially conscious person. We want to bring to your notice the shortage of attendance of your child, dear parents, with fraternal concern, and we urge you to kindly monitor your child lest he might lose one year.
There are 77 first year students and 77 second year students having attendance shortage. Some have attendance shortage because of illness. Though I do not have the power to condone the attendance for medical reason, I can at least hope that in the coming days they would try their best to get attendance above 75%. But there are several students who have attendance shortage because of lack of motivation, sheer carelessness and recklessness.
Students who have attendance less than 75% will have to come to the college regularly and ensure that attendance is above 75% by the 15th of November.
I have explained to you in detail what happened last year and we will continue to be firm in our decision to allow only those students who have 75% of attendance in each subject to write the final exam. Remember it is not our rule; it is the rule of the government and the rule of PU board. No matter what you do, this rule will hold good for ever unless government makes an amendment which is unlikely.
Boys of SJPUC are fascinated by the attractive places located around the college. Many students show lack of maturity and responsibility in life and hence miss classes frequently.
Kindly know your son’s friends and have their phone numbers. Try to know the house and parents of your son’s friends so that you can monitor him better. See that your son is in the company of good friends. If he is uncontrollable bring it to my notice. I will see as to how to help him
After the mid term examination, we find large number of students missing classes. They leave the house but they do not reach college.
They are either with their friends or in some parks or playing computer games with their friends.
All the students should be inside the college campus by 8.15 a.m. or 8.20 a.m. College gates will be locked at 8.30 a.m. and after 8.30 a.m. students will not be admitted inside the campus.
See that your child brings the calendar and ID card everyday. Check your child’s calendar regularly. Last month onwards we started imposing a fine if they do not come properly groomed to the college.
SJPUC is a Pre-university college and not a baby sitting center. We are not here to mind your children and take care of them. It is a place of serious learning. We want to treat our students in a mature way and we think that they are responsible young men. If they do not behave in a mature way, I suggest that you find a suitable place elsewhere or ask them to write the exam privately.
Prior to 2006 the Principal had the authority to condone the attendance on medical grounds. Now it is not so.
Use of mobile phones and electronic gadgets other than the ordinary calculator is forbidden in the college campus. I have displayed the circular sent by the government on the notice board. In case of emergency, students can use the public phone booths available in the campus.
Provide your children with minimum amount of money that is sufficient just for their lunch and bus fare. Large amount of money will force them to find other means of entertainment which may spoil their life.
From 25th of October 2010, we begin remedial classes for the failed students. They will have to attend the remedial classes without fail.
Our College has a website. SJPU.com. Information about the college activities is given and it is regularly updated. Information regarding attendance can be accessed using the password of your son which is the last four digits of his register number.
I have received complaints from a few parents that the boys are asking money to buy sweat shirts. We have not made any arrangements to make sweat shirts or pull overs. The college has banned sweat shirts winter your children can wear sweaters or jackets that have no printed matter on it.
Dear students a small piece of advice to you. Your parents have sent you to this college with great difficulty. They have taken care of you, paid your fees, fed you, provided you with every possible facility, even tuition facilities, yet many of you have wasted your parent’s money, our staff member’s time and my time. If you think you are not able to study and want a year of break, take a break.
Choose friends who are helpful. This is the age for you to study and lay a firm foundation for your future life. People do not want third class persons to head their firms, to do their projects. Do not give way to distractions. If you want a bright future and a comfortable life, prepare to do hard work, lay a firm and solid foundation for your life and then you’ll find a bright future waiting for you. Believe in your abilities and success will be yours.
We are grateful to you, parents, for entrusting your children in our care. But we require your support to bring these children up, mould them and to make them true Josephites. Hope you will visit us frequently in the coming months and see the progress of your son until your son leaves this college on a happy note
